International academic publisher IGI Global has converted over 30 of their journals to full Gold Open Access (OA) and is offering a platinum journal (no article processing charges), the International Journal of Translation, Interpretation, and Applied Linguistics (IJTIAL). This will enable authors to publish their work under a CC BY license (where the authors maintain the copyright and others can distribute, adapt, and build upon the work without limitations), as well as freely provide timely, peer-reviewed research that spans across 11 core subject areas, including business and management, computer science and IT, education, social sciences, and more. “As everyone knows, access to digital resources, especially OA journal content, is critical during times such as these when researchers and institutions all over the world are connecting remotely," stated Dr. Khosrow-Pour, Founder and CEO of IGI Global. "Now, more than ever, there is a need for the timeliest and highest quality research, and IGI Global has recently made the decision to begin to convert our journals into OA with the ultimate goal of transitioning our full journal collection to OA."
Additionally, each of these Gold OA journals will also be applied to major OA repositories, including DOAJ, to ensure the highest
discoverability, and all of IGI Global's content can also be accessed through the IGI Global Open Access Collection (a collection containing all of IGI Global’s OA content), which can be easily integrated into library discovery systems.
“To meet with industry standards, our goal is to transition the 30 full Gold OA journals to where IGI Global publishes articles immediately online after the peer review process and their formal acceptance, as the journal will be fully and solely published in digital format as an e-journal,” explains Ms. Melissa Wagner, Editorial Director. “This enables high-impact research to become immediately available to researchers, librarians, and the entire scientific research community.”
As IGI Global is a full member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the 30 journals will continue to be published under a high-quality publishing process, which includes a rigorous, double-blind peer review procedure. IGI Global’s full publishing process is managed by the eEditorial Discovery System and in-house staff, which provides authors with a streamlined, personalized publishing experience.
Article Processing Charges (APCs)
IGI Global will continue to publish research under a subscription model for the rest of their collection of 150+ scholarly journals. To support the publishing costs of publication of these 30 Gold OA journals, authors will pay an article processing charge. IGI Global’s goal is to keep Article Processing Charges (APCs) extremely affordable and they vary between US$ 750-2,000 (compared to competing OA publishers, including Springer, Elsevier, etc. that charge US$ 5,000-US$ 11,000). These APCs
will cover:
- Digital tools used to support the manuscript management and review process, including the eEditorial Discovery®
Submission System - Typesetting, formatting, and layout
- Online hosting, which includes IGI Global’s InfoSci platform, EBSCO, and more.
- Submission of the journal’s content to numerous abstracts, directories, and indices
- Third-party software (i.e. plagiarism checks)
- Editorial support which includes manuscript tracking, communications, submission guideline checks, and communications with authors and reviewers
- All promotional support and activities which include metadata distribution, press releases, promotional communications, web content, ads, fliers, brochures, postcards, etc. for the journal and its published contents
- Articles being freely accessible and able to be posted and disseminated widely by the authors
- And more
